Concerns Regarding Project Accountability and Member Representation

Dear Fellow Members,

In our ongoing pursuit of transparency and accountability within our cooperative, we have undertaken a thorough investigation into the frequent initiation and abrupt cessation of projects by the Board of Directors, accompanied by a lack of comprehensive explanations. Recent revelations from Christine Johnson-Nieves regarding the abandonment of the A Lot and underground parking project for the foreseeable future have raised additional concerns.

Ms. Johnson-Nieves cited delays as the primary factor, leading to speculations that the project may have faced financial constraints. What raises eyebrows is the apparent convenience with which the project reached a point of completion, allowing for the resumption of vehicle access to the lots and the underground facility just in time to demand fees for parking spaces. Simultaneously, longstanding members who held two parking spaces have been disallowed from retaining them, while any potential acquisition of extra parking for vehicles not registered in members' names has been prohibited.

This situation is untenable and raises issues of procedural transparency. Several members possess vehicles not registered in their names, and the recent directives, introduced without communication or member consensus, further compound the matter.

It is imperative that such significant decisions be communicated to the membership and subject to democratic processes, as board members are elected to represent the will of the membership rather than imposing unilateral decisions. Our expectation is for the Board to act as stewards of our collective interests, not as autocratic figures.

We propose an open dialogue and, if necessary, a formal vote on these recent directives to ensure that the actions taken align with the collective vision and needs of our cooperative. Through transparent and inclusive decision-making processes, we can reaffirm the cooperative's commitment to serving the best interests of its members.
